Content Overview: Mainly introduces how to set the default template in SolidWorks, how to quickly input part properties, and how to link and display part properties in engineering drawings.
1. How to Set File Templates (Parts, Assemblies, Engineering Drawings)#
Part drawings can be configured with default units, as well as part properties and related parameters. The image below shows an example of related property settings.
The configuration of engineering drawings mainly involves the size of the drawing sheet, the title block, and the need to automatically fill in the relevant properties of the part in the title block when generating the drawing. For detailed content on this section, please refer to Section 3.
After modifying the relevant file property settings, choose to save as a template when saving the empty file. The suffix for parts is prtdot, for assemblies is asmdot, and for engineering drawings is drwdot. After creating the default template, it is recommended to place the template in a specific location and set it as the default template.
2. Quick Input of File Properties#
You can use the "Property Card" tool from the Mide toolbox (which has had many names, including Today's Manufacturing, Great Engineer, and Great National Craftsman). It can quickly automatically add part numbers as needed, read part property content, and then conveniently fill in and modify. You can also rename and save files based on property modifications. This way, you can save standardized file names, for example: {Code}-{Part Name}.
3. Linking Part Properties with Engineering Drawings#
First, in the part template, add the necessary related properties, and then save it as a part template.
Then, in the engineering drawing template, enter the edit drawing mode.
In the annotations, insert part annotations. Then select to link to properties. Here, the model is discovered. File properties. Add the relevant properties and select confirm. The text displays as: $PRPSHEET:{Property}
Finally, you can test the effect of adding relevant properties in the part and importing them into the engineering drawing. This way, the correspondence between part properties and engineering drawing fields can be completed.
